introduction

Students’ perceptions of faculty

In the US and Canada, research indicates that, by and large, college students with disabilities respect their professors, appreciate their efforts, and generally think well of them.

What students with disabilities said:

  • On average, instructors’ willingness to make accommodations was good to excellent.
  • Generally, faculty were sensitive, willing to accommodate, and positive.
  • There were exceptions: Not all faculty were perceived positively.
  • A higher proportion of students with "invisible disabilities" reported negative experiences with faculty.
