PhD Assistantships
ECOLOGY CENTER ASSISTANTSHIPS FOR PHD STUDENTS
(FY 2012-2013)
The Ecology Center is pleased to announce Ecology Center Assistantships for PhD students pursuing ecology degrees at USU. These are competitive, one-year awards of up to $12,000.
Eligibility: The assistantships are intended for graduate students pursuing Ph.D. degrees in ecology, already in our program, and otherwise without financial support. If a student qualifies, he/she may apply for both the EC Graduate Research Support Award (used solely to support research costs) and the EC Assistantship for PhD Students.  Applicants should still be in the data collection/research phase of their programs. Furthermore, apart from conducting research elsewhere, the student must be in residence at USU.  Occasionally, a student can be awarded an assistantship for a second year. If applying for a second year of support, a progress report on the first year of funding is expected. An awarded assistantship will be given in the fiscal year 2012-2013 (1 July 2012 – 30 June 2013) and the student cannot have other significant sources of support (such as teaching or research assistantships) at that time.
Application: The application should consist of the following:
·      a copy of transcripts of your class work at USU
·      a letter of support from your major professor
·      a list of your other committee members
·      information about your research (hypotheses, methods, etc. see announcement for EC Graduate Research Support Awards), if not also applying for an EC Graduate Research Support Award.
·      an explanation of where you are in your program and what is left to be accomplished (e.g., completed xx field seasons, need yy more months to complete research and data collection before synthesis and writing which will take ca. zz months).
·      a description of other forms of financial support you have had and anticipate having for your graduate program at USU (for both your research and assistantship).
·      a list of any publications of your work at USU.
Please submit 1 hard copy and 1 electronic copy to nancy.huntly@usu.edu
