The Center for Epidemiologic Studies


The mission of the Center for Epidemiologic Studies is to provide a setting for multidisciplinary research on the occurrence, causes, and prevention of disease and illness through studies of communities and populations. The mission of the Center is being accomplished by focusing on the following goals:



  • Continuing development of the Cache County Study on Memory, Health, and Aging as one of leading prospective studies of the causes and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease. 
  • Developing resources and methods for population-based studies of interactions between genes, metabolic pathways, environmental factors, and behavior in human disease and illness.
  • Fostering new partnerships both within and outside of the University.
  • Expanding the diversity of populations under study and of faculty, staff, and students engaged in these studies.
  • Enhancing the teaching mission of the University by sharing research discoveries, methods, and opportunities with students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Disseminating knowledge gained from research to the scientific community and the general public.
