Program Facts

Power Hour: This National program is done the first hour of every day at all 11 sites (ages 6-13). We help the kids with homework, bring in teachers to tutor, read, and do educational worksheets. Participants get points for completed assignments, and these points go towards a weekly prize and a monthly field trip.

SMART Moves: This is a positive decision making program that has been developed by Boys & Girls Clubs of America. It consists of 12 lessons on topics such as goal setting, healthy living, family importance, self-image, and consequences to decisions. This program is done once a week at each of our 11 sites (ages 6-13).

Kids in Control: This program is done once a week at our 10 elementary school sites upon the completion of SMART Moves. Club members will learn about many different types of safety and what to do in harmful situations. The lessons are taught through role-playing and interactive games.

Utah Opera for Kids: At 9 of our sites (6-13) our club members have the opportunity to write, compose, and perform their own opera. The kids come up with their own story line and supporting characters, make their own props, and write their own music with the help of the Utah Festival Opera. A site will focus on the opera for an hour each day for four weeks, with performances for their school and their parents at the end of the four weeks.

Discovery on Wheels: Eight of our sites (6-13) have the opportunity to spend a couple of days with Discovery On Wheels, a hands on traveling science laboratory from the University. The kids have the opportunity to see why and how things work, and learn about their surroundings.

New Game of the Week: Each Monday we play a new game with the kids. This is often times a game they will later chose to play during Club Choice or for Club Member Sharing.

Arts and Crafts: On Wednesday we do some type of craft activity. This craft may be nature, culture, Holiday, or season oriented and involve many different mediums.

Team Building Activities: Each week we conduct a team or character building activity. These activities can involve the whole group working all together, or smaller teams working together. A problem is set out before the group or groups that they need to solve together. When the activity has been carried out a discussion is held about the activity and how the team solved the problem.

Smart Moves: This is a positive decision making program that has been developed by Boys & Girls Clubs of America. It consists of 12 lessons on topics such as goal setting, healthy living, family importance, self-image, and consequences to decisions.

Club Member Sharing: Each week, one child's name is drawn to do Club Member Sharing. This child will have an opportunity to share a hobby, skill, favorite book, or a talent with the rest of the group. This is followed by a question/answer session and then the child chooses their favorite game and the group plays the game. This is great opportunity for the kids to get to know each other, as a club, better.

Learn & Serve: All of our club members (6-13) have an opportunity to participate in community service projects through this program. The club members do projects such as school clean ups, humanitarian aid kits, car washes, trail clean ups, visit senior centers, and help in community events.

Fitness Authority: During the course of this program, all of our club members (6-13) participate in activities to increase their athletic skills, set fitness goals, and learn how to eat healthily. This program is held each week for one hour during our summer program.

All Stars: This program is only at our middle school site, and will be held for one hour each week starting in January. This program is a risky behavior program that tackles the issues by focusing on futures and where decisions made fit into the goals they have set for themselves. This program is geared to kids making a transition, as that is where many kids start to show signs of risky behavior.

Club Day: Once to twice a week at all of our sites (6-13) we have club day. The club members at each site chose 2-3 clubs that focus on interests they have. Each month we hit on a different aspect of the Core Program Areas. One month is the The Arts, next might be Education & Career, etc.
