Information for Students Enrolling in Lab Courses

    Enrolling in FCHD 4960

    PROCEDURE

Students planning to enroll in FCHD 4960 must pay an $30 fee ($18.00 is refundable the semester you teach) at the USU Cashiers Office. Next, fill out a registration card, available from Misty Balls (Family, Consumer, and Human Development office - FL 205) indicating the two choices that you are available to teach in the Child Lab (semester, year and time: am/pm). Then return this registration card in with your receipt to Misty. This fee may be refunded if a student withdraws his/her name from the waiting list prior to the third week of the semester preceding that which he/she is scheduled to teach. If a student withdraws his/her name after this time, no refund will be given.

Normally, there are 20 student teaching positions each semester, with the exception of Summer Semester when there are between 10 and 20. Therefore, students will need to fill out a registration card and pay the fee well in advance (usually three full semesters is sufficient for Fall and Spring, and four full semesters is required for Summer).

By filling out the registration card and paying the $30 fee, students reserve for themselves a place for child laboratory student teaching. Since registration and acceptance are on a "first come - first served" basis, students are responsible for determining the semester they want to teach in the laboratory and making their arrangements early enough to ensure enrollment. Please keep in mind that there are sometimes extra openings in the laboratory and students may get in at the last moment. This does not always happen however, so it is the student's responsibility to sign up early. Notify the Department Office (435-797-1544) immediately if you have had a change of address, phone number, or email address. If we do not have your current information, we will be unable to contact you and your space will be given to someone else. The Department Office will notify you by mail of your acceptance in the Child Lab prior to the registration period for the semester that you are applying.
