    Current research interests/projects

My two main research interests involve women and financial planning and bankruptcy. I teach a monthly workshop “Financial Planning for Women” which covers a wide range of financial topics from debt reduction to long term care insurance with an emphasis on investing for financial security in retirement. FPW is central to my research program on what motivates women to begin investing sooner and more aggressively for retirement.

Consumer bankruptcy is another research interest. Since Utah ranks in the top ten states in number of bankruptcies per household, this project addresses a state public policy issue. I am developing a profile of Utah debtors and determining what factors are related to successful Chapter 13 debt repayment plans. I recently completed a grant from the American Bankruptcy Institute to study serial bankruptcy filers.

Other research interests include: long term care planning, the economics of divorce and remarriage, and support of children by non-custodial fathers.
