The Housing and Financial Counseling Services at the Family Life Center is a nonprofit, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development approved agency that provides housing counseling to the community and students free of charge and financial counseling at a minimal cost. Our mission is to develop, through counseling and education, a community of people and families who are knowledgeable about housing and who effectively manage their financial resources.
Housing and Financial Counselors at the Family Life Center have individually counseled more than 5,000 clients throughout the state since inception in 1993. In addition we have served thousands of individuals in various fashions, for example, workshops, presentations, and seminars. The Center also serves as a training center for USU students in the Family Finance emphasis. Housing and Financial counselors have helped people to learn money management skills, how to honorably discharge debts, budgeting skills, to prepare for home ownership, how to qualify for a mortgage, to understand the Home Equity Conversion Mortgage, and ways to prevent the loss of rented or mortgaged housing.
