Courses for this program follow the regular campus semester. You will register for courses at the same time as students who attend classes on campus. You can find a schedule of registration and other important semester dates here. Registration can be completed through Access using your A number and strong password. Some courses are offered only during specific semesters. Please refer to our online course offerings schedule to find out when the courses you need will be offered.

You will have similar qualifications as someone who has completed a degree in Family, Consumer, and Human Development. The following are some examples of potential career opportunities:
- Change Agents – working in group homes for children or adolescents, battered women shelters, mental health institutions, sex-offenders
- Facilitating and Co-leading Groups – working with individuals who have experienced abuse or neglect, working with at-risk or in-crisis individuals
- Job Coaching/Career Counseling
- Eligibility Specialist – working with individuals in need of public assistance
- Community Education
- Crisis Intervention
- Casework/Case Manager
- Program Director/Coordinator/Assistant – for example, after-school programs, senior citizen centers, community education

- Extension – working as a county agent, educator
Absolutely! However, there are a few minors you cannot pursue with a degree in FLS. You cannot receive a minor from the FCHD department since there are so many overlapping courses which are required for your program. For example, you cannot receive the Family Finance minor and receive a major in FLS.

The fees for graduation are based on when you submit your application. Applications submitted before the deadline are assessed a $10 fee. Applications submitted after the deadline are assessed a $50 fee. Applications will not be fully processed until the Registrar's Office has received your fee payment as well as your survey (part of the graduation application).
Deadlines for graduation applications (date by which the application and fee are due):
- Graduating Spring – December 5
- Graduating Summer – April 25
- Graduating Fall – August 5
When completing coursework for FLS, if you complete a few required courses, you will be eligible for the abbreviated application process offered through the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR). Specific abbreviated application requirements can be found here. You can find the checklist for our approved program here.
The Senior Capstone Project is meant to be a practical application of your experience in the FLS program. You will be asked to complete projects which will take up to 90-120 hours to complete. The course consists of a research component, a teaching component, and a service component. Each of these build from one another and give you the opportunity to engage in community outreach. You are required to complete a background check before taking this course.
