Important Financial Aid Deadlines

In general, you must have completed your FAFSA before the last day you attend classes in order to receive aid for a particular semester. To receive a loan, you need to have completed the FAFSA one month to six weeks before you cease attending in order to have a chance.

However, the earlier you apply the better!

Fall Semester 2008 (2008-09 FAFSA)

  • Fri, Aug 15: Tuition and Fee payment deadline: Any difference between awarded financial aid and fall charges must be paid by this date.
  • Mon, Sep 15: Last day to be enrolled in fall classes to receive grants. Grants and Perkins Loan will also adjust through Sep 15.
  • Fri, Dec 5: Last day to accept award for Stafford or PLUS loans for fall-only loans. (You must have been awarded before this date!)
  • Fri, Dec 5: Last day for an appeal to be received in the financial aid office.
  • Fri, Dec 12: Last day to have your 2008-09 FAFSA processed if you are only attending fall semester and you only want a Pell grant.
  • If you are selected for verification, verification forms must be submitted within one week of your last date of attendance for the term.

Spring Semester 2009 (2008-09 FAFSA)

  • Fri, April 24: Last day to accept award for Stafford or PLUS loans for spring-only loans. (You must have been awarded before this date!)
  • Fri, April 24: Last day for an appeal to be received in the financial aid office.
  • Fri, May 1: Last day to have your 2008-09 FAFSA processed if you are only attending fall semester and you only want a Pell grant.
  • If you are selected for verification, verification forms must be submitted within one week of your last date of attendance for the term.

Scholarship application deadline

New and transfer students apply on their application for admission. If you have questions, contact the Admissions Office at 435-797-1129. Most campus departments have a February deadline. Check with your department for further details. More info

Stafford disbursement schedule

Assuming your loan is approved in time, your funds should be electronically transferred to USU 2-3 days prior to the beginning of the semester. Remainder checks are mailed the day before the beginning of the semester. Directly deposited funds are deposited the first day of class. Aid is not available to students before classes begin.

Summer Semester 2008 (2007-08 FAFSA)

  • Fri, May 2: Tuition and Fee payment deadline: Any difference between awarded financial aid and summer charges must be paid by this date.
  • Mon, June 30: Last day to have your 2007-08 FAFSA processed (midnight Central Daylight time)
  • Wed, July 23: Last day to accept Stafford, PLUS loans.
  • Wed, July 23: Last day for an appeal to be received in the financial aid office.
  • Thurs, July 10: Last day to be enrolled in summer classes to receive grants. Grants will also adjust through July 10.
  • If you are selected for verification, verification forms must be submitted within one week of your last date of attendance for the term.

Spring Semester 2008

  • Fri, Apr 25: Last day to accept award for Stafford or PLUS loans for spring-only loans. (You must have been awarded before this date!)
  • Fri, Apr 25: Last day for an appeal to be received in the financial aid office.
  • Mon, Jan 28 : Last day to be enrolled in spring classes to receive grants. Grants will also adjust through Jan 28.
  • Fri, May 2 : Last day to have your FAFSA processed and if you are only attending spring semester and you only want a Pell grant.
  • If you are selected for verification, verification forms must be submitted within one week of your last date of attendance for the term.

Fall Semester 2007

  • Tues, Aug 21 until Noon: Fall Tuition and Fee Payment Due (Online/In Person) - deadline updated 08/20/07
  • Fri, Sep 14: Last day to apply for work study position or work study award will be cancelled.
  • Mon, Sep 17-21: Work study applications available for eligible students.
  • Mon, Sep 17: Last day to be enrolled in fall classes to receive grants. Grants and Perkins Loan will also adjust through Sep 17.
  • Mon, Sep 17: Last day to accept Perkins Loan, if awarded, and complete processing requirements.
  • Fri, Dec 7 : Last day to accept award for Stafford or PLUS loans for fall-only loans. (You must have been awarded before this date!)
  • Fri, Dec 14: Last day to have your FAFSA processed if you are only attending fall semester and you only want a Pell grant.
  • If you are selected for verification, verification forms must be submitted within one week of your last date of attendance for the term.

Summer Semester 2007

Summer students should file the 06-07 FAFSA by June 1 to have a good chance at meeting summer deadlines.

  • March 1: First day to turn in USU Summer Application.
  • June 30: Last day to have your FAFSA processed.
  • Fri, July 27: Last day to accept Stafford, PLUS loans.
  • Mon, July 16: Last day to be enrolled in summer classes to receive grants. Grants will also adjust through July 16.
  • If you are selected for verification, verification forms must be submitted within one week of your last date of attendance for the term.

Spring Semester 2007

  • Fri, Apr 27: Last day to accept award for Stafford or PLUS loans for spring-only loans. (You must have been awarded before this date!)
  • Mon, January 29 : Last day to be enrolled in spring classes to receive grants.
  • Fri, May 4 : Last day to have your FAFSA processed if you are only attending spring semester and you only want a Pell grant.
  • If you are selected for verification, verification forms must be submitted within one week of your last date of attendance for the term.

Fall Semester 2006

  • Fri, Dec 8 : Last day to accept award for Stafford or PLUS loans for fall-only loans. (You must have been awarded before this date!)
  • Mon, September 18 : Last day to be enrolled in fall classes to receive grants.
  • Fri, Dec 15: Last day to have your FAFSA processed if you are only attending fall semester and you only want a Pell grant.
