  FAC - Lighting Technicians  
  Stage, lighting, and sound technicians all come from the same pool of stage crew.  All employees are encouraged to learn and develop skills in all areas of production, but for those who may be interested it is possible to specialize in specific production areas.  
     
 

Lighting Technicians:

  
 

Lighting technicians set up and operate lighting equipment under the supervision of a lighting designer, production coordinator or crew chief.  Depending on the production you are working on and your particular experience, you may be involved in all or some of the activities outlined below:

  
  • Establishing lighting requirements
  • Plotting the lighting, or interpreting another designer’s drafting
  • Coordinating the equipment
  • Assembling all the lighting and filter equipment needed
  • Ensuring all lighting equipment is in working order
  • Pre-rigging the lighting
  • Ensuring all cables and wires are used safely
  • Programming and operating lighting consoles
  • Supervising the focusing of lighting
  • Operating and maintaining equipment during live shows
  • Maintaining standard light plots in each of the performance venues
  • Restoring all equipment at the end of the production
  • Ensuring all equipment is stored properly
  • Training other crew members as required
