Faculty Travel Grants

Women & Gender Research Institute
Faculty Travel Grants

The Women and Gender Research Institute invites applications for:

1. Travel grants by female faculty as matching funds to support presentation of research, including research on teaching, and other creative work at professional meetings.

2. Travel grants by male and female faculty as matching funds to support presentation of gender-related research or curriculum development at professional meetings.

Award Conditions
1. Maximum total funding from WGRI for both Research Grants and Travel Grants combined is $1000 every two years.

2. Funds may be used for the following travel expenses: registration, travel, and per diem (meals and lodging).

3. Requests for travel funds must be made first through regular University channels, such as the applicant's department or college. The applicant must state the outcome of these requests. A letter from the department head or dean stating the amount and source of matching funds must accompany the application.

4. Confirmation of acceptance of presentation or participation in the professional meeting or conference must be provided by letter, printed program, or other document.

Eligibility
1. Female faculty members presenting results of research or creative activities in their fields or research on teaching.

2. Male and female faculty members presenting research findings that further the body of scholarly and creative knowledge about gender in their fields. The reported research must contribute to the gender literature in their fields, rather than merely using gender as one independent variable in a research design.

3. Because WGRI's resources are limited, preference will be given to non-tenured faculty in tenure-track positions. Second preference will be given to tenured assistant and associate professors who have not received funding within the previous two years. Tenured full professors and non-tenure track faculty may be considered for funding under special circumstances and if resources allow.

4. Only one faculty member will be awarded travel funds if the paper or presentation is multi-authored.

Application Procedures
Application forms are avaliable online as word processing document, PDF file (for printing).

To apply, submit one completed copy of the Faculty Travel Grant Application to Director, Women and Gender Research Institute. Attach the following to the application: (a) letter from your department head or dean verifying the amount and source of matching funds, and (b) confirmation of participation (letter, printed program, or other document). Applications must be received no later than two weeks prior to the trip.

Review Process
Funding decisions are made by the WGRI Steering Committee, which includes faculty members from each academic college and University Extension. Grant award decisions will be based on an evaluation of the quality of the application proposal and on how well the project contributes to WGRI's goals of fostering the research productivity of women faculty and of enhancing our awareness and understanding of women's and men's contributions and roles in society. Preference will be given to applications representing invited presentations and those resulting from peer review.

Research Results
Recipients of grants are expected to acknowledge WGRI support in the presentation of their research or creative work. Recipients may be asked to provide a brief final report of their presentation experience to the WGRI Director.
