SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS
Department of History Scholarships
Anthony Kinninger - To be awarded to a history major in need. GPA is not a factor in receiving this scholarship. Applications are available in the History Office (Main 323) in January and are due by February 1. Decisions are usually announced in March or April for following academic year.
S. George Ellsworth American History Scholarship - In memory of Professor Ellsworth, this scholarship is given to an outstanding junior studying American history for use during the senior year. Awards are based on two semesters of tuition. Applications are available in the History Office (Main 323) in January and are due by February 1. Decisions are usually announced in March or April for following academic year.
J. Duncan Brite Non-American History Scholarship - In memory of Professor Brite, this scholarship is given to an outstanding junior studying non-American history for use during the senior year. Awards are based on two semesters of tuition. Application forms are available in the History Office (Main 323) in January and are due by February 1. Decisions are usually announced in March or April for the following academic year.
Preston J. Nibley History Scholarship - A full tuition scholarship for one year to be awarded to one or more outstanding history students. Application forms are available in the History Office (Main 323) in January and are due by February 1. Decisions are usually announced in March or April for the following academic year.
College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences - Applications are available in the Dean's office (Main 338) starting Fall Semester for the following academic year. Applications are due in to the Dean's office by February 1. This application allows the student to compete for all College-awarded tuition waivers and most College and Departmental Scholarships.
Financial Aid - Students seeking to establish eligibility for federal grants, loans, and work study will need to complete a free application for federal student aid and submit it to the Financial Aid Office. Additionally, this office administers a number of University scholarships, most of which have a February 1st application deadline. Department of History Awards
W. Mont Timmins Essay Award - A cash prize awarded by the Timmins family for the best essay on an aspect of pioneering in Cache Valley. Open to all undergraduates and graduates.
History Outstanding Seniors -Three graduating seniors are honored each year for their commitment to the study of history and their involvement with the History Department.
Utah State Historical Society Award - Given annually to an outstanding student interested in Utah History. The award is a two-year subscription to the Utah Historical Quarterly.
Kathryn Bowen Bullen Essay Award -This award is presented annually for the best paper written for a 3000-4000 level course by an undergraduate history major during the academic year of the award. The award is $500.
