Dr. Barnard received his Ph.D. in microbiology/biochemistry in 1987 from Brigham Young University. He completed a one-year post-doctorate in the Antiviral Program of Utah State University, after which he was appointed Research Associate Professor in the Department of Animal, Dairy and Veterinary Sciences at USU. He is Head of the Biochemical Mechanisms and Veterinary Virology Sections of the Institute.
