IELI 2320 Writing Authentic Texts
Course Description
This course guides students in developing more sophisticated writing skills. It takes students from complex sentences to coherent paragraphs and various kinds of compositions. Students learn to use the library and the Internet to find resources for their writings.
Course Goals
- Identify conventions of academic writing
- Write several types of paragraphs and short academic essays
- Practice rhetorical organization of the paragraph and academic essay
- Write essays, answer exam questions, summarize information, and paraphrase correctly
- Practice writing as a process
- Write from sources (textbook, news, popular genres, discussions, Internet investigations)
- Learn forms and functions of grammatical features appropriate to the writing task
- Use technology relevant to course goals
