IELI 2420 Writing from Academic Sources

Course Description

This course introduces students to various academic writing demands. Students gather information from various sources, including interviews, surveys, and academic texts (textbooks, journals, etc.); analyze and summarize the information; and write documented essays and reports.

Course Goals

  • Practice writing skills necessary for success in university level studies
  • Revise writing to improve organization, unity and coherence
  • Use resources in library to gather information to support your ideas
  • Avoid plagiarism by summarizing, paraphrasing, synthesizing and citing information
  • Use of word processing to format, draft, revise and edit
  • Use technology (Nicenet, word processing, e-mail, the Internet)
  • Produce documented writings using information from several sources
  • Use technology relevant to course goals
