The IELI Placement Exam is administered at the beginning of every semester. The exam is given to new students only. Students may retake the exam only if they have been away from IELI for one year and wish to reenter the program.
Except for writing classes, the total score is used to place students in classes appropriate to their English ability. Placement in writing classes is based on writing score.
The Placement Exam has five parts: listening, reading, grammar, vocabulary and composition. The exam takes about two hours: listening 30 minutes, reading 35 minutes, grammar 18 minutes, vocabulary 18 minutes, and composition 30 minutes.
You mark answers by darkening the space over the letter in pencil, as in number 1.
