Rick LeBrasseur

Rick LeBrasseur, ASLA has served as director the Swaner Green Space Institute since 2007. Rick received his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree at The University of Connecticut and a Masters of Landscape Architecture from the University of Michigan’s School of Natural and Resources and Environment.

Current issues at the forefront of the Green Space Institute ask how does the spatial pattern of developed land in our metropolitan areas affect ecological health and human experience ? These growing urban areas, such as Cache Valley, face an important challenge : How to preserve the significant cultural resources and ecologically diverse and natural areas as the number of residents continue to grow dramatically and people increasingly seek these important areas for living, working and recreating. The Green Space Institute brings awareness to the need to make sound, proactive decisions.

Rick believes we should continue to utilize the power of design to engage the broader public and to modify their ideas of what a naturalistic landscape affected by human presence actually is. Seeing the landscape in the context of the 21st century will be crucial as we move forward in the attempt to rekindle our connected relationship to nature. If we are to build upon the landscape, which is inevitable, we must do it consciously and do it well with a firm belief and understanding of conservation and preservation.
