It should be noted that Aristophanes "borrowed" not only the central idea of uniting the dead and the living from Eupolis' Demes but also the famous rowing scene from another play by the same colleague, Taxiarchs. Aristophanes' expropriation of Eupolis' scenarios can be seen as either grave robbery or a noble tribute to a fallen comrade.
