Caesar's early life was fairly eventful. Tied as he was to Marius through Marius' marriage to Caesar's aunt, he had had to flee Rome when he was still a teenage and Sulla had taken over after Marius' sudden death. After a lengthy stay in the East, Caesar finally returned home following Sulla's death and thereupon began building a political career. At that point he had little more than name and personality to go on.
