Though from Sicily, Rhinthon appears to have had ties to Tarentum, a city in southern Italy, which is natural enough since large numbers of Greeks inhabited both areas. Little else is clear about this author, however, other than he wrote in Greek, not Latin. His dates are not certain (probably ca. 300 BCE) but several titles of plays, mostly spoofs of Euripides, are preserved, so he must have lived after the Classical Age.
