Classical Drama and Theatre
| Syllabus | |||
There exist today only a few good Medieval copies of Plautus' drama which form the fundamental basis of our understanding of his corpus. Worse yet, these manuscripts are, for the most part, badly damaged, having been corrupted in the copying process. Were it not for a fluke of fortune in which a single manuscript of high quality and authority was preserved, we today would have fewer of Plautus' plays and in much worse condition.
