Program Faculty and Diversity Description

The faculty in the MFT program strive to create diverse experiences for students. This is a challenge for a rural state university. The immediate MFT faculty consists of one female and two males. Additionally, two of the faculty are LDS and the other is associated with a Lutheran denomination. In the larger department, there are 19 tenure track faculty (13 female, 6 male) and five female lecturers; the majority are non-LDS. The majority of the faculty are Caucasian, but there are faculty members from Germany, Korea, and Costa Rica.

We strive to recruit a diverse student cohort, but are realistic knowing that most of our applicants come from the intermountain west area, which is predominantly LDS and Caucasian. Over the years we have had one Native American student and students from Belarus, the Bahamas, and various parts of the United States. We typically have at least one student who speaks Spanish in each cohort.

The university has a strong international program with students from every part of the world. There are strong and viable student organizations representing African Americans, Native Americans, Latinos, and Asians.
