Call
for Proposals
Mountain West Center for Regional Studies
Faculty Fellowship for 2008-2010
Award
Amount: $6,000 over a two-year period ($3,000 per year)
Purpose:
This fellowship is designed to support and recognize an individual
faculty member or faculty team in the College of Humanities, Arts,
and Social Sciences for the completion of a pedagogic, scholarly,
or creative project that will expand our understanding or appreciation
of the human experience in the American Mountain West. Interdisciplinary
efforts are encouraged. The following types of projects are eligible:
* Projects that are already underway and for which
additional support is needed.
* New projects that can be completed during the two-year award period.
* Longer-term projects that are more ambitious, for which seed money
is needed.
Selection
Criteria:
* Feasibility of the project and documentation of how the fellowship
will be utilized. (For seed money projects or for projects already
underway documentation must demonstrate a specific need for the
funding and explain how the Mountain West Center Faculty Fellowship
fits into the larger project).
* Quality and thoughtfulness of the proposal.
* Appropriateness of the topic for enhancing understanding or appreciation
of the Mountain West and its peoples.
Responsibilities
of the Recipient:
* A public presentation of the project's results, preferably on
campus, to be scheduled through the Mountain West Center.
* A public presentation of the project's results in a public forum
off-campus that appropriately targets an interested audience in
the region, to be scheduled in cooperation with the Mountain West
Center. (For example, a research project on the sociological effects
of shifting economic bases in the Teton Basin might result in a
public presentation in Driggs, Idaho.)
* Acknowledgment of the Mountain West Center at Utah State University
for support in any resulting publication(s) or public presentation(s).
* A copy of the research findings, artistic creation (documented
by photograph if necessary), or other product to be given to the
Mountain West Center upon completion of the project.
For
those individuals utilizing the fellowship for seed money, a public
presentation of preliminary findings on campus will be acceptable,
with the second presentation delayed until the entire project has
been completed.
Deadline
for submissions: Wednesday, May 21, 2008
Application
Process: Submit a proposal to the Mountain West Center
for Regional Studies by May 21, 2008.
(No more than six pages including the budget page.) The proposal
must include the following:
* A description of the proposed project, its methodology, and why
it is significant for furthering our understanding or appreciation
of the American Mountain West.
* An indication of the public community, external to the university,
that will be most interested in the completed project, and suggestion
for an appropriate venue for your second presentation.
* An explanation of the feasibility of the project. If the proposal
is for seed money for a more ambitious project, explain how the
seed money will be utilized and what other funding will be pursued
to complete the larger project.
* A one-page budget summary showing how the MWC funds will be spent,
and a summary of funds secured or expected from other sources.
* A letter of support from your Department Head.
$3,000
will be available beginning July 1, 2007. The second $3,000 will
be available beginning July 1, 2008.
