Location and Access

Kibale National Park is located in southwestern Uganda 25 kilometers east of the Rwenzori Mountain foothills, and 20 km southeast of the city of Fort Portal. The Park is located in Burahya, Kibale, and Mwenge counties in the Administrative District of Kabarole and Kasese, and is bordered by 27 parishes. Kibale National Park has three main entry points: (1) Sebitoli when coming from Kampala, (2) Kanyawara when coming from Fort Portal, and (3) Kanyanchu along the Fort Portal/Kamwenge road. The Park is accessible by road from Kampala via Mubende. While this route is the shortest distance from Kampala, the last 140 km of the road is unpaved, and travel by four-wheel-drive vehicle is recommended, especially during the rainy seasons. An alternative paved route travels south through Masaka, Mbarara, Kasese (via Queen Elizabeth National Park) and Fort Portal. Travel time is roughly 5 to 7 hours from Kampala.
