Native American Programs


The Native American Program within the Office of Multicultural Student Services exists to meet the variable needs of American Indian/Alaskan Native students pursuing higher education. Our mission is to maintain outreach and retention of students with academic advising; financial assistance/scholarships, mentorship, leadership opportunities, cultural events, and utilizing campus resources. Academic Support

Advise American Indian/Alaskan Native students with assistance toward achieving their academic goals and graduation from the university in coordination with the MSS Academic Programs Coordinator.

  • Complete 12 or more credit hours per scholarship requirements

Leadership Development

Foster leadership opportunities while coordinating with the MSS Leadership and Activities Coordinator and ASUSU's Diversity V.P. to promote and enhance cultural understanding, group presentations, leadership workshops, and educational activities/events as planned by the Native American Student Council.

Scholarship & Financial Aid Resources

Interface with the Office of Financial Aid to assist American Indian/Alaskan Native students with federal, tribal, institutional, and private resources and procedures for financial assistance and the USU Daniels Fund Educational Opportunity Scholarship program, http://danielsfund.org

Recruitment and Outreach

Coordinate with the Office of Admissions, high school counselors, and tribes for outreach and recruitment of American Indian/Alaskan Native students. Collaborate with university entities to host American Indian/Alaskan Native high school students to the University.

Counseling

Provide personal counseling and mediation, in coordination with the Counseling Center, as appropriate which result from misinterpretations with social, economic, or cultural misunderstandings that may impede academic progress.
