GENERAL
INFORMATION

AUDITIONS |
(for freshmen
and students new to the band.)
Are held when you report for Camp in August to assign parts
appropriate to individuals' ranges.
Some sight reading to test rhythmic ability; chromatic and a major
scale or two, a prepared solo or etude on your part would be
appreciated. Music may be
provided in advance. |

|
|
CLOTHING |
Whatever is
comfortable and appropriate.
Running shoes with high backed heel supports may not allow for proper
toe point. Low cut tennis or
basketball shoes are highly recommended and should avoid tendonitis. Make certain they have proper
support. Bring rainwear and
sunblock. The rehearsals go on
rain or shine—be prepared. |

HOUSING |
Your
regularly assigned residence hall room will be available on Sunday, August 19
from 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM. |

INSTRUMENTS |
Piccolos,
mellophones, baritones, tenor saxes, some other instruments (if you own any
of these, please use them), sousaphones, and percussion equipment (no sticks)
are furnished. Students supply
the rest. |
|
|
|
|
JOGGING |
Two weeks
before you report for drills, it is advised you begin to run (on the grass or
a soft surface)—we get pulled muscles that might be avoided with a
little "preliminary" conditioning. Stretch out before you jog. |
|
|
|
|
LYRES |
Must be
furnished by the bandsmen for their personal instruments. If you have an odd fitting (or
unusual clamp) lyre—be sure you have a spare. Lyres will be furnished for some
school-owned instruments. |
|
|
|
|
MEALS (on campus students only) |
If fees are
paid, you may purchase your USU ID card at the USU Card Office, Room 212 of
the Taggart University Center.
At that time, a variety of debit-card plans will be available for use:
Aggie Marketplace & the Hub Food Court in the Taggart Center, Quick Stop,
and Quad-Side Cafe in the Merrill Library. Follow literature from your residence halls for specific
