Mike Christiansen is a Professor of Music and the Director of Guitar Studies in the Music Department at Utah State University. In 1994, Mike was selected as "Professor of the Year" at Utah State University. He has taught workshops at many schools, including MI in Hollywood. He averages over 130 performances annually as a soloist, with the group Mirage, and with Lightwood Duo. Mike is the author of twenty-two books (twenty of which have been published by Mel Bay Publications), has recorded sixteen CDs, and appears on eleven instructional videos. His books are distributed internationally. Mike is the co-author of the book Mastering the Guitar, which received the 1997 Best New Print Publication award from Music and Sound Retailer Magazine. In 1997, Mike's video, Guitar Basics, was awarded the ITA Platinum Video Award. Guitar Basics was also selected as Music and Sound Retailer Magazine's #1 instructional video for 1996. Mike has published several magazine articles including Acoustic Guitar and Soundboard. He has been a back-up musician on several recordings and has recorded music for television and films. Mike has recently released a new CD with the Lightwood Duo entitled "Requests."
