The STM image of a 33 nm wide pattern on an UHV processed H-terminated template. Si dangling bonds in the patterned region appear brighter than the rest of the surface which is H-terminated. The bright dots on the surface are unsaturated dangling bonds. They are single Si atoms but appear much larger in the STM images.
