Selection

Pick a cantaloupe with a sweet, aromatic scent; a strong smell could indicate overripeness. It should feel heavy for its size. Avoid wet, bruised, or cracked fruit.

Storage

Ripen on the counter. After ripe, the whole melon can be refrigerated for up to 4 days. After cut, store in a covered container or tightly wrapped for up to 2 days.

Handling

Wash the melon before cutting.

Season

The peak season is from June to September.
