CUFISS

CUFISS is a community organization that holds activities for international students and helps them more fully integrate themselves into the community.

Please fill out the CUFISS Questionnaire for International Students and Scholars and return it to the OISS.

What Does CUFISS Do for International Students and Scholars?

  • Gives a head start in understanding culture.
  • Allows opportunities for public speaking.
  • Allows English practice out of the classroom.
  • Develops friendships and eases anxieties.
  • Makes available a variety of local knowledge.

...For the Community?

  • Allows residents to expand their worldviews and perceptions by getting to know a diverse group of people.
  • Organizes opportunities to give service that is appreciated.
  • Provides families with a chance for individual cultural exchange and friendship.
  • Involves community members in the international celebrations and recognition of students.
  • Gives members a chance to share local favorites and experiences.

...For the University?

  • Helps publicize the broad spectrum of students and scholars who choose USU.
  • Provides additional resources to supplement university staff at no cost.
  • Shows international exchange in a very favorable light.
  • Helps to promote USU as a friendly, supportive setting for international students.
  • Supports interaction with other international organizations.

What CUFISS is Not Intended to Do

  • Encourage community members to subsidize students' education.
  • Promote off-campus work in violation of immigration laws.
  • Provide any opportunities for illegal activities such as smuggling.
  • Recruit or proselyte for religious or other groups. Sharing your culture and beliefs is okay. Pressuring or "sifting" for converts is not!
  • Reduce cost of living for students by giving free transportation, food, housing, etc.
  • Put pressure on community members to sponsor immigrants.
  • Involve students (or community members) in multi-level marketing plans.
  • Act as a dating service to find romantic partners or spouses for community members or students.
