Listen to adolescents as they talk to their friends, noting words and expressions not used by adults and other differences distinguishing their speech from that of adults. What functions might these differences serve for adolescents?
Observe adolescents as they talk to each other and record your overvations on this data sheet.
1. Desctribe the speakers (number, age, sex, ethnicity, etc.)
2. Note the location and context in which the conversation takes place.
3. Record the topic(s) of the conversation(s).
4. Note disruptive patterns of speech (i.e., choice of words, phrases, patterns of interruption, emotional tone, etc.).
