Basic Avalanche Education for Backcountry Users

This course assumes no previous avalanche safety training. It is intended as a first step. The travel skills required are on foot. Skis, Snowshoes, or Split Boards are appropriate for this course.

Advanced Avalanche Education for Skiers

The Advanced Course develops a full understanding of snow pack development and metamorphism. Observation guidelines and recording standards for factors that influence and indicate snow pack stability are presented. Avalanche formation and release and skier triggering mechanisms are discussed. The process of stability analysis is introduced. This course is designed for those who have an interest in expanding their knowledge and understanding of snow stability and snow stability factors.

Time: Feb 29th and March 1st
Cost: USU Students $35 -- Textbook Included
All others $45 -- Textbook Included
Location: ORC
Pre-requisites: Able to travel on foot in the backcountry

Location: Meet at the Outdoor Recreation Center (ORC)
Pre-requisites: Level 1 or Equivalent Course, Able to Ski or Snowshoe 4+ miles in Backcountry with Overnight Gear. Have a Beacon, Shovel, and Probe
