Stop by the Merrill-Cazier Library to kick off Parent & Family Weekend. While you’re there, enjoy refreshments, music, goodie bags, and tours of the library, while in the company of fellow parents, families, students, and staff.

Star Gazing - SER Building Observatory (full)
The Utah State University Observatory was constructed on top of the Science Engineering Research (SER) building. Outfitted with a 20" Corrected Dall-Kirkham telescope from Planewave, the observatory is a multi-purpose facility designed for use by students enrolled in USU courses, the general public, and students and amateurs involved in scientific research projects. Come enjoy star gazing while visiting your student Friday night. They can accommodate groups up to 40 at 8:30-9:30 p.m. or 9:30-10:30 p.m.

The American Festival Chorus along with guest conductor and soloist Chantel Renee Wright, director of the Harlem based performing company and preparatory program 'Songs of Solomon,' will perform. Soloist and Broadway star, Sherrie Pratt, and USU students Anthony Pratt, Kris King, Shalayna Guisao and Jeunee Roberts will participate in the performance as well. The concert will also include the Salt Lake City Calvary Baptist Church Choir, directed by Miki Hesleph.

The Museum of Anthropology will be bringing a bit of Hogwarts to Cache Valley. Come join us in our Potions class as we make things go "boom”, "pop” or bubble over the top, or participate in our Charms class and learn about ways people throughout time have protected themselves against dark magic and illness. Come sample delightful food from the world of Harry Potter and make a licorice wand or chocolate frog. For those with extra energy, enjoy a game of Quidditch, with play times at 11 am, 1 pm and 2 pm. Participate in our Harry Potter costume contest and compete for free Aggie Ice Cream at 1 pm. Throughout the day patrons can view posters about author J. K. Rowling and the phenomenon of Harry Potter.

Human Wildlife Interactions with Dr. Patricia Cramer

In this talk Dr. Cramer will present information on how wildlife crossings are working in Utah and other states. The presentation will contain hundreds of pictures of all kinds of wildlife using wildlife crossings. The ideas of changing driver behavior and training wildlife will be presented.
Dr. Cramer is a Research Assistant Professor at Utah State University. She has active research projects looking at wildlife and roads in Utah, Montana, Idaho, Vermont, and Oregon, and a completed study in Washington. Dr. Cramer was co-author with John Bissonette on the National Academies' Research Project, 'Evaluation of the Use and Effectiveness of Wildlife Crossings.' This 4 year study helped us understand the state of the practice and science of mitigating roads for wildlife in North America. She received the Denver Zoo's Conservationist Award for 2010.
