Introduction
The Peer
Advising Program at Utah State has been in existence since
the early 1990's as a complement and support to advisors in
several academic and student services departments.
The
mission of the Peer Advising Program is to be of value
and support to:
- the
participating departments at Utah State.
|
- the
students utilizing the service of a Peer Advisor.
|
- the
growth of the Peer Advisor themselves.
|
|
This
certification consists of eight (8) modules which will
guide new Peer Advisors through an overview of a topic, give them the opportunity to make an exploration of the information and materials and
then to practice what they have learned. After
successfully completing the practice section of each module,
Peer Advisors receive a certificate and obtain the status
of "certified."
All
New Peer Advisors must reach "certified" status
by the mandatory Peer Advisor Retreat typically held on the
first or second Saturday of Fall semester. Certification
is then maintained by regularly attending the monthly
training meetings.
Through
the completion of this Online Certification Program, new Peer
Advisors will be better prepared to match the mission of the
program and hit the ground running on day one. It is vital
that Peer Advisors be certified, well trained and available
to make a positive contribution almost immediately.
