POSITION TITLE: DEAN - VICE PRESIDENT FOR EXTENSION, DEAN OF THE COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE, AND DIRECTOR OF THE UTAH AGRICULTURAL EXPERIMENT STATION

Utah State University invites applications and nominations for the position of Vice President for Extension, Dean of the College of Agriculture, and Director of the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station.

Utah State as the Land-grant University of the state of Utah is focused on creating an opportunity for exceptional learning, state-of-the-art research and a committed outreach to the citizens of the state, nation and the world. With a goal of improving the quality of life for individuals, families, and communities, USU Extension continues a long tradition of reaching out to citizens and connecting them to this institution and the products of its teaching and research. The College of Agriculture includes the programs of five academic departments: Animal, Dairy, and Veterinary Sciences; Applied Economics; Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning; Nutrition, Dietetics, and Food Sciences; and Plants, Soils, and Climate. Additionally, the College includes two schools: School of Applied Sciences, Technology and Education and School of Veterinary Medicine. The Utah Agricultural Experiment Station includes eleven research farms and twelve laboratories/centers.

The new Vice President of Extension, Dean of the College of Agriculture, and Director of the Utah Agricultural Experiment Station, has the responsibility to develop a strategic direction for USU Extension and the College of Agriculture. The Vice President/Dean works closely with university administration to develop exceptional programs and to develop quality relationships within the state of Utah. Extension at USU has a network of 28 county offices and three regional centers employing 100 faculty and professionals, as well as 55 Extension specialists with assignments in academic departments across six colleges at USU. The College has approximately 134 faculty, 26 non-professorial academics, 186 staff and a student body of 900 undergraduates and 155 graduate students on the Logan Campus. Another 38 faculty, 4 staff and 1,200 students are part of the School of ASTE and are located on the USU-Eastern campus. The Vice President for Extension will be a member of the President's Cabinet and the President's Executive Committee and will report to the President. As Dean of the College of Agriculture, the Dean will report to the Executive Vice President and Provost.

The University seeks a creative and visionary leader for this position who is an accomplished scholar and passionate about the role of Extension in the modern university. The new Vice President/Dean must be willing to listen, act with wisdom, delegate responsibilities, and remain passionately committed to excellence in research, teaching and Extension. The individual will be expected to engage multiple constituencies, communicate clearly and carry a strong commitment to a culturally diverse community.

Also, all applicants must reserve time from April 14th thru April 27th for possible 4-day on-campus interviews.
