Faculty, Staff, Students Encouraged to Register for Blood Donor Program
October 12, 2009
Dear Faculty, Staff, Students:
Please consider joining with me in a new blood donor program to strengthen our blood supply. This life-saving preparedness program has received the support of many medical organizations, most notably, all three Utah blood collection agencies. By registering with www.USBloodDonors.org, a privacy-protected volunteer blood donor registry, your name and email address will be available should life-threatening shortages of blood occur in our communities.
If you are currently a blood donor, we thank you and urge you to continue to donate blood. If you have not donated blood recently, or have never been a blood donor, please consider registering to be a “stand-by” blood donor. USBloodDonors.org is a 501(c)(3) non-profit public service organization with the mission to engage an additional 3-5% of the population to be “stand-by” donors and be contacted on a real-time basis via email, should a severe need for blood occur.
This donor registry is confidential. By registering on-line now, prior to a disaster, whether natural or terrorist-related, the need for blood donors can be communicated quickly and efficiently if the need arises. In addition to blood collectors appealing to the public through the media, USBloodDonors.org will alert those of us that are registered via email in times of urgent need. By registering, thousands of potential blood donors who do not currently donate blood on a regular basis will be immediately reachable to donate during an emergency.
We are not being asked to donate blood at this time, only to register. We hope that many of you will opt to become regular blood donors, and many more will decide to register as “stand-by” donors.
Please consider taking just a minute of your time to register at www.USBloodDonors.org and provide the minimal contact information requested on the website. You can make a positive difference in the lives of your family, friends, and neighbors in need.
Sincerely,
Stan L. Albrecht
President
