Three filmmakers; Benjie Nycum, Mike Glatze, and Scott MacPhee, set out to make sense of the suicide of a young gay boy named Jim Wheeler. JIM IN BOLD takes the audience on a journey through the heartland and tries to find out the essence of what is Young Gay America. Everybody is sure to be affected by this gripping and heartfelt series of interviews of gay youth living in Salt Lake City to Lawton, Oklahoma, from Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Wilmington, Delaware. JIM IN BOLD parallels the poetic and artistic work of Jim Wheeler as it explores the struggles of coming out, dealing with sexuality and homophobia. JIM IN BOLD shows that homophobia can kill. The harsh reality of Jimmy Wheeler's abuse is a sober reminder of the destructive power of hate and prejudice. JIM IN BOLD has received many awards including "Best in Festival" from the Indianapolis LGBT Film Festival 2003. And the recent Pulp stated "JIM IN BOLD is a landmark in gay cinema. JIM IN BOLD may be the most helpful story about gay suicide ever made." Also, look for JIM IN BOLD in March's Advocate magazine, the film will be the subject of a feature article.
