Lock up your Sons and Daughters

Lock up your Sons and Daughters

Vancouver-based film curator Bill Taylor presents a truly astounding and rare collection of oddities featuring anti-gay themes from educational films first presented in classrooms and on television. Join him on a trip down memory lane to re-discover how youth were taught to fear, hate, and ridicule anything suggestive of homosexuality. Re-live or experience for the first time such classic films like Perversion for Profit (that blames everything from Lesbianism to S&M on - that's right - "The Communist Masters of Deceit"), The Report: The Gay Agenda (a call to action by the Religious Right), and Soapy the Germ Fighter (where we learn that "it's not sissy to be clean"). Taylor guides you through these campy films and others, offering insightful and humorous commentary as we explore how media manipulated young minds against gays and lesbians. Bill Taylor is a curator and archivist who presented numerous programs at Out On Screen, Vancouver's Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, before venturing into independently-curated programs such as I Sold My Soul on eBay, a cornucopia of 16mm gems found through the online auction house. Lock Up Your Sons and Daughters is currently touring festivals worldwide.
