Research and evaluation methodologists can apply their skills in a great range of jobs. Demand is rapidly outstripping the supply of qualified research and evaluation methodologists trained in education, psychology and related social sciences. There is increasing recognition of the important roles that research and evaluation can play in improving programs, processes and products in these and other fields. In many cases, legislative mandates require evaluation of programs and projects supported by government funds.
As a result, excellent employment opportunities are available for research and evaluation specialists in
- universities
- federal, state and local educational and psychological agencies
- regional laboratories
- private consulting firms
- business and industry
- testing corporations
- military settings
Starting salaries for entry-level Research and Evaluation Methodology (REM) specialists with a PhD typically range from $45,000 to $65,00 depending upon the particular person and the applicant's prior experience and qualifications. Opportunities for advancement are excellent because of the increasing need for the technical expertise provided to students in this program. As "accountability" becomes the hallmark of both public and private systems of education, business and industry, mental health care, and other social services, career opportunities for specialists in these areas will continue to expand.
