The Department of Psychology at Utah State University offers a specialist-level graduate program of study leading to an EdS. in School Psychology. The school psychology program consists of an intensive plan of study that includes broad training in psychological and educational foundations, assessment, consultation, behavioral interventions, research, and legal / ethical / professional issues in school psychology. A major aspect of the training program is extensive applied experience in clinical and school settings throughout the time of enrollment. The program of study typically takes three years to complete: two years of coursework and a full-time academic year (9-month) internship in a public school during the third year.
The major emphasis of the training program at USU is the preparation of school psychologists who are broadly trained in assessment, intervention, and consultation. The school psychology program provides strong training in behavioral assessment and intervention which allows students to work effectively with children and adolescents experiencing a range of emotional, behavioral, and academic difficulties.
