Microbial physiology is the common thread of the research program in the Weimer lab. Our group focuses on many aspects of physiology. We often begin with phenotypic characterization and end with genetic manipulation to achieve the desired outcome. We investigate the physiology of lactic acid bacteria, brevibacteria, pseumonads, bacilli, and other bacteria associated with food and the environment. We apply the outcomes to industrially relevant problems. Therefore, technology transfer is a focus of each project. For example, we recently commercialized an organism for use in cheese production. This focus resulted in the creation of a Center of Rapid Microbe Detection & Physiology. | ||
