USU Major Fair: Connecting Major Selection to Retention Efforts
Michelle Bogdan, University Advising

We are all familiar with the term “sophomore slump.”  Common characteristics associated with this “condition” include:  pressure to choose a major, uncertainty about the direction of one’s life, and feelings of guilt associated with the time and money going into college while looking for direction.  The USU Major Fair is one of several tools designed to help all students discover a major path that is most suited to their interests, abilities, and career goals. The Major Fair provides students with the opportunity to meet with departmental representatives, explore potential majors, and if appropriate, declare a major that fits.  In addition, this event provides a forum to inform students about Financial Aid, Student Involvement, Honors, and other nonacademic programs.  The University Advising Center has sponsored this event since its conception in 2003.  For further information, contact the University Advising Center at (435) 797-3373.
