
Area Government Board Positions
President
The President is the chief officer of the Area Government. He or she takes a special oath of office to always set the proper example of a student leader, and takes upon him or herself the special stewardship of each AG member. He or she takes the responsibility of encouraging, leading, and helping every AG member to reach their full potential as a student leader.
Chief Responsibility:
Ensure the well-being of the Area Government. Be the LEADER! Lead others to do their jobs.
Suggested Responsibilities:
Maintain the budget
Attend RHA General Council meeting, held every 3rd Wednesday at 7:PM in Bullen Hall
Preside over AG council meeting, or assign someone to take your place
Prepare the agenda for AG Council meetings assuring everything is covered.
Encourage continuity and take charge of continuity folders box.
Help AG create a mission statement.
Fill out the Program Approval forms one week prior to the AG area program.
Fill out the Program Report form within 24 hours of the AG area program.
To ALWAYS role model a positive attitude and inspire other AG members to have positive attitudes toward AG activities & jobs.
Vice President
The Vice-President not only supports the President in his or her job to lead the AG, but also attends to many responsibilities which are uniquely his/hers. The Vice President is charged with the special and critical responsibility of creating unity among the AG members.
Chief Responsibility:
To create unity among the AG Council members.
Suggested Responsibilities:
Support the AG President in his or her responsibility to carry out the AG mission. (i.e. call/text often and ask how you can assist, etc.)
With the direction of the AG Advisor, take charge of planning “teambuilder” activities as needed, and promote AG spirit. Help foster unity among AG members in any way that you can.
Attend RHA General Council meeting, held every Wednesday at 7:00 PM in Bullen Hall
Take charge of AG General Council mtgs. in the absence of the President.
Take detailed notes during Board meetings and Council meetings and make sure they are emailed to the entire AG member list.
Act as a timer in the Board and Council meetings. Give each item a certain amount of time to be discussed and help people stay on time.
Keep careful attendance and follow up with people who are not attending.
Administrative Chair
The Administrative Chair has a unique and rare position of leadership. As the third member of the AG Presidency, his or her chief responsibility is to unify and strengthen the AG Presidency. The Admin Chair takes on all secretarial duties of the AG Presidency and acts as a liaison between all chairs and the AG Presidency.
Chief Responsibility:
To help build a strong, unified AG Presidency in words, actions, and decisions.
Suggested Responsibilities:
Support the AG President in his or her responsibility to carry out the AG mission. (i.e. call/text often and ask how you can assist, etc.)
Promote and update the AG Facebook account. Set an AG goal to recruit every resident in the area community to become a member of -- and use -- our AG Facebook page. Use Facebook to promote all AG and RHA events. All postings need to be approved by your RHA Executive.
Take charge of AG General Council meetings in the absence of the President and Vice-President.
Attend RHA General Council meeting, held every Wednesday at : 7:00 PM in Bullen Hall
Take meeting notes in the absence of the Vice President.
Spirit/Recognition Chair
Spirit/Recognition Chair has a special responsibility of recognizing AG members through awards, OTMs, and thoughtful encouragement.
Chief Responsibility:
To publically recognize deserving AG members for all of their dedicated efforts.
Suggested Responsibilities:
Plan AG sanity parties as needed.
Write an OTM before AG General Council (every other week) recognizing one of our AG members. Read the OTM in the meeting and publicly recognize the person for his/her accomplishment. OTMs can be submitted online on the RHA website at <http://www.usu.edu/rha/http://129.123.113.105:90/NRHH.aspx>.
Promote writing OTMs (monthly) and joining NRHH (at semesters), send out reminder emails for AG members and RAs to submit OTMs on the last day of the month.
Randomly spotlight AG members in AG General Council meeting. Tell the group about his/her likes or dislikes and do something special for the person.
Work with the Events Chair to thank all businesses/community members who help with/donate to our Activities.
Create and hand out special awards and recognition at the end of each semester.
Create a list of all the AG members birthdays and celebrate accordingly.
Events Chair
The Events Chair is not in charge of planning AG activities. That is done under the direction of the AG President in AG Council. However, the Events Chair is in charge of all of the logistical aspects of planning the activity. Building scheduling, organizing volunteers, etc. are all responsibilities of the Events Chair.
Chief Responsibility:
To work out the nitty-gritty logistics of each AG activity -- (set-up/clean-up volunteers, building scheduling, and supplies shopping).
Suggested Responsibilities:
Take charge of planning all AG activities (at least one each month.) Delegate assignments to AG Council members and follow up to make sure they are being done.
Reserve buildings for meetings and activities -- help your AG President and Advisor to remember that you cannot schedule activities or meetings on Wed. nights because of RHA mtgs. =)
Take time in each council meeting following a major activity to lead a group discussion on ways that we could have improved the activity/ improve future activities
Take responsibility for the AG supply box (which will be checked out to you). For additional activity supplies: 1-Search for additional supplies if needed on the RHA Inventory 2- Ask local businesses for donations before activities, and work with the recognition committee to thank them after. 3- If additional supplies is still needed, get a list of stuff that we need to go shopping for before the activity and set a date with the advisor to go shopping.
Public Relations Chair
The PR Chair is the person that spearheads the effort to get the word out about AG activities. He or she assists the AG Advisor in maintaining the area bulletin boards assigned to the AG and also taking pictures at all AG events.
Chief Responsibility:
To promote all AG activities through creative advertisement, word of mouth, and social networking.
Suggested Responsibilities:
Attend to the bulletin boards in the area redecorating them with AG info monthly.
Take pictures at all AG events
Post all pictures on AG Facebook account and send them to the RHA Administrative V.P.
Create new ways to foster better relations with the area staff and Housing officials. (i.e. maybe leave a little treat in their box that says from the AG)
Invite the RAs to attend AG Council meetings.
Advocacy Chair
The Advocacy Chair assists the members of AG and RHA in bringing attention to problems in the Residence Halls (i.e. internet, parking, maintenance problems, etc.). Also act as a liaison for AG members to be able to give direct and anonymous feedback on the situation of the AG and ideas for improvement.
Chief Responsibility:
To work with AG members to gain constructive feedback about the AG and improvement suggestions.
Suggested Responsibilities:
Take time in each AG meeting to address advocacy needs
Look for new and innovative ways to encourage residents to submit advocacy forms and promote resident involvement in AG.
Assist the RHA Advocacy and PR Officer in solving advocacy issues/ generating ideas for solving problems.
Take written suggestions, surveys, and private feedback from AG members to help the AG know where they can improve. Report directly to the Advisor on all feedback issues and improvement suggestions.
Recruitment Chair
The Recruitment Chair actively seeks out new members to participate in the AG Council. They are also responsible for maintaining a current list of all members.
Chief Responsibility:
To encourage residents to join Area Government and keep records of all members.
Suggested Responsibilities:
Process new AG applications and keep them on file for reference.
Update the Contact Info Sheet and roster; email everyone when changes happen.
Create a written recruitment plan and a written set of recruitment goals for our AG at the beginning of the each semester. Present the plan in cabinet meeting for the group to discuss and officially adopt.
Make sure that we have AG applications at every activity for residents to join AG
Work with the R.A.s to find people that would make good AG members and recruit them.
Area Council Committee Chair
The Area CCC is responsible for coordinating all volunteer efforts to run AG Programs. They also make sure everyone is informed with all AG activity information.
Chief Responsibility:
Keep everyone informed and coordinate all AG Council volunteers.
Suggested Responsibilities:
Make sure that we have volunteers to set-up/ clean-up for every activity.
Coordinate AG Council members to deliver AG advertisements.
Send reminder emails/texts/phone calls/facebook invites to AG members to remind them about meetings/activities
As a committee, knock doors an hour before our major activities to get people to come.
