Claims

The State of Utah Division of Risk Management handles all claims against or for state agencies. The claims are processed for fair and equitable settlement. Settlements are based on thorough investigation of the circumstances and law surrounding the claim. Each claim is handled separately and outcomes are based on their own merit.

Claims filed in the areas of civil rights, law enforcement, auto liability, property damage and general liability may be litigated by the Attorney General's Office. The goal is to seek reasonable conclusions when the state is liable and aggressively defend against claims without merit.

Risk Management's claims adjusters are responsible for each claim and control the actions of contract adjusters, investigators and attorneys assigned to each case. The State Risk Manager retains final settlement authority in mediation hearings and settlement conferences.
