Cache Valley 'Idita-Teacher' Contest

Local musher Sue Morgan is running the Iditarod in March 2008 and she wants to share this unique experience with the young people of Cache Valley. Sue hopes to encourage teachers to use the Iditarod as a framework for teaching Math, Science, and Geography (incorporating the arts and writing) in the classroom.

PART 1
General Information:

PART 2
Submit a hardcopy detailed lesson plan you developed and subsequently used in your classroom incorporating information and/or data from the Iditarod. Submission will include artifacts such as photos, student work, etc. (You must use a prepared template for this section. The template is a Microsoft Word Document and you can download it by clicking here.)

PART 3
Submit a 1-2 page double-spaced essay on how attending the Official Iditarod Teacher Conference will be of benefit to you and your students.

AGREEMENTS
The contest winner, and top finalists, will agree to make their lesson plans available to other teachers. The contest winner agrees to present elements of what they learned at the conference to Utah State University Elementary Education students. This presentation will focus on utilization of real world events to integrate curriculum.

SELECTION
Winners will be chosen by a committee composed of education and science professionals. If the winner is unable to attend the conference (June 22-28, 2008), the prize will be given to a top finalist.
