Shazadi is the
performing troupe of the Utah State University Middle Eastern Dance
Club (USUMED). The dancers in this troupe are primarily the ones
responsible for organizing and arranging performances and activities,
as well as teaching the classes. Shazadi is made up of 6 senior
club dancers with varied backgrounds and multiple talents. Together,
these dancers share a singular passion for Middle Eastern dance
and strive to do it justice through practice, hard work, and
love of the dance.
Shazadi
is currently made up of five very talented dancers: Sumra,
Sadeema, RaSahra
, Mayyadah, Sevda, and Kinza. Shazadi has gained a reputation for
its excellence in polish and presentation
and has gained a good following at concerts in Logan as well
as the honor of being invited to perform in several seminar
shows and other important dance events in Salt Lake City.
In their first national competition in 2003 Shazadi placed
second
overall in the Ensemble of the Year category, beating out
competitors from several other states.
