At every SOAR session you will accomplish the following:


Meet with your academic advisor for an initial introduction and registration assistance

  • Meet the advisor for your major and learn about the roles and responsibilities of both advisors and students
  • Make plans to finalize your first semester schedule
  • Learn about the General Education and Depth Education requirements
  • Learn how concurrent enrollment, AP, and transfer credits apply toward your degree
  • Receive information about your major, or information about majors in your area of interest if you are undeclared
  • Get your advisor's contact information so you can arrange for a full advising session once school begins

Register for your classes

  • Create and/or finalize your first semester's classes with assistance from the A-Team and your advisor
  • Leave with a full schedule of classes that fits your needs
  • Learn how to use the Access registration system to search for open classes, add or drop classes, and modify your schedule if needed

Enroll in the University Connections program

  • Learn about the benefits of this optional first-year experience class, which provides opportunities for you to to explore the University environment, develop academic connections, and discover ways to broaden your educational experience
  • Learn about the different Connections options (the main option is a two-credit course the week before school starts)

Pay tuition and fees

  • Learn how to pay tuition and fees using the Touchnet system
  • Learn the tuition and fee payment deadlines
  • Learn about the Tuition Installment Plan (TIP)
  • Visit with the Financial Aid office to make any final arrangements
  • Learn how and when your scholarship and/or financial aid will be applied to your student account

Learn about important University policies and procedures as well as the student code

Finalize housing plans

  • Speak to representatives from the Housing office
  • Obtain information about meal plans, move-in dates, and what to bring

Prepare for your first year at Utah State University

  • Have your picture taken and receive your student ID card
  • Learn how and when to purchase your textbooks
  • Learn how to update your personal information to keep it accurate
  • Set your emergency contact and campus alert information
  • Create your student Aggiemail email account
  • Learn where to park, how to get a parking permit, and how much it will cost
  • Tour campus (optional)

  • Acquaint yourself with 25 diverse Utah State students who know the ropes
  • Ask your questions and receive personalized, accurate answers and advice
