Program Activities


Each program activity is designed to meet the individual needs of the participants in the program. The following summarizes the program activities indicating the related objective and evaluation criteria of the activity:

2. Provide a college-level reading course for 100% of qualified program participants. II, IV, V, VI Fall Spring Reading / Learning Specialist, Project Advisor & Director, Academic Resource Center 80% of students enrolled in Psy 1750 complete the course with a "C" grade or better. 3. 75% of SSS students will take the study skills course in the first year after joining the program and earn at least a "C" grade. II, IV, V, VI Fall Spring Reading / Learning Specialist, Project Advisor, Director of the Academic Rescource Center, Life Skills Coordinator 80% of students enrolled in Psy 1730 complete the course with a "C" grade or better. 4. Provide instruction in developmental, intermediate and college algebra to 100% of program participants whose assessment scores indicate math deficiency. II, IV, V, VI Fall Spring Math Specialist, Program Advisor, Math Department 80% of students enrolled in these courses complete the course with a "C" grade or better. Matriculation in higher-level math. USU student / faculty evaluation survey.
5. Provide personal conferencing. I, II, III Fall Spring Project Advisor, University Counseling Center, University Physician, appropriate community and campus agencies Students' files show that 70% of the students receive the service.
6. Provide academic advising to 90% of the program participants. I, II, IV, V, VI Fall Spring Project Advisor, University Registrar, Director of Advising and Transition Services, Departmental Advisors Student is registered for correct courses. 90% of participants advised each semester.
7. Offer one-on-one tutoring to 100% of program participants. II, IV, V, VI Fall Spring Summer Project Advisor, Director of Academic Resource Center, Tutors, SSS Program Director, and Secretary 80% of students receiving tutoring pass the course in which they received tutoring with a "C" grade or better.
8. The program makes faculty mentors available to 100% of program participants. IV, V, VI, VII Fall Spring Summer Project Director, Project Advisor, Reading/Learning Specialist, Math Specialist, Administrative Secretary, and Peer Mentors Students will evaluate and report on mentor experiences on a semester basis.
9. The program offers peer mentors to 100% of participants. II, III, IV, V, VI Fall Spring Program Director, Program Advisor, Reading / Learning Specialist, Math Specialist, Administrative Secretary, and Peer Mentors Student meets with Program Advisor three times per semester to assess student's needs.
10. Offers a writing tutor to 100% of program participants. II, IV, V, VI Fall Spring Summer Reading / Learning Specialist, Project Advisor, Writing Tutor, Director Disability Resource Center 80% of students pass classes with grade of "C" or better.
11. Provide access to cultural activities. III Fall Spring Program Advisor, Administrative Secretary, Program Staff Students complete a Student Activity Feedback form.
12. Offers career advisement to 100% of program participants. II, VI, VII Fall Spring Program Advisor, Career Development Staff, Math Specialist, Student Services Director Students enroll in a major related to career choice. 35% of participants take Psy 1220, Career and Life Planning.
13. Provide workshops on applying to graduate school. VII Fall Spring Project Director, Project Advisor, Graduate School Staff, Merrill Library Staff Students complete applications and apply to graduate programs. 50% of Jr. / Sr. participants attend workshops on graduate schools.
14. Provide 100% of ESL students with tutor . II, III, IV, V, VI Fall Spring Project Advisor, International Students and Scholars Office staff 80% of students receiving tutoring pass the course in which they received tutoring with a "C" grade or better.
15. Assist transfer students. II, IV, V, VI Fall Spring Project Director, Advisor, and Admissions Staff 75% of transfer students who meet eligibility requirements are assisted with transfer evaluations.
16. Assures that 100% of program participants are offered sufficient financial aid. II, IV, VI Fall Spring Program Director, Program Advisor, Director of Financial Aid Office Student aid award letter evaluated.
17. Project offers activities to promote a positive campus climate to 100% of participants. III, IV Fall Spring Program Director, Program Advisor, Director of Student Services, Faculty Members Students complete a Student Activity Feedback form.
