Retention

The data shown below clearly show that eligible nonparticipants have significnatly lower retention rates than Student Support Services participants. The Student Support Services participants' retention rates are significantly higher for all cohort groups than those for the eligible nonparticipants and higher than those for the sample of noneligible students.

Below is a comparison of the Retention Rates on Eligible Nonparticipants, Noneligible Students, SSS Participants for the years 2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-2009, and 2009-2010.

Credits and GPA

The data referenced below presents information on two variables linked with satisfacory progress towards a degree. The variables are cumulative USU GPA and cumulative credits earned. Data on each of those variables are presented for the six cohorts in each group.

Academic Standing

Another way to measure progress towards a degree is to examine the percentage of students who are in good standing academically. The table below shows that SSS participants have the highest academic good standing and the eligible nonparticipants have the lowest percentage of students in good standing.

A Comparison of the Academic Standing* of Eligible Nonparticipants, Noneligible Students, and SSS Participants for the Years 2004-05, 2005-06, 2006-07, 2007-08, 2008-2009, and 2009-2010

Graduation Rates

The data in the tables below indicate the percentage of students in each cohort group that graduated at the end of each year and the cumulative graduation rate for each cohort. Overall, over 29% of the eligible nonparticipants in the Fall 2004 cohort had graduated by Spring 2010, and almost 44% of noneligible students had graduated by Spring 2010 while 83% of SSS participants for the same cohort had graduated by Spring 2010.

Program Changes Resulting from Data

Evaluation and assessment are critical components of our program and this information is tracked and reported annually to the U.S. Department of Education and Utah State University. The continued funding of the SSS program is contingent upon our meeting our goals and objectives. According to the measured outcomes, we look at each activity and make a plan for warranted programmatic changes. In that way, we assure that we will continue to reach desired outcomes as outlined by the Department of Education and also to support the mission of Utah State University. There is no need for any changes in the scope of the program.
