About Work-Study Jobs

Work-study jobs are regular on-campus jobs reserved for students with a work-study award. You must work to receive a paycheck every two weeks. These jobs average about 10-15/hrs per week depending on the award and pay rate.

In order to be eligible for these jobs, you must complete the Financial Aid application (FASFA), and be awarded work-study. For more information on applying see the Financial Aid website at: http://www.usu.edu/finaid

The first work-study awarding is given to those students who apply early. A second awarding is done as funds are available during the year.

The new jobs for the school year are posted the first of August.

To apply for a Work-Study job:

1. Look online at the work-study jobs and print a Job Referral/Control Card.

2. Gather the information you will need to apply listed on the Job Referral/Control Card.

3. If you are hired, the employer will need to sign your Job Referral/Control Card and fill in the necessary hiring paperwork. See Workstudy Hiring Instructions.

Note: Returning work-study students still need a new Job Referral/Control Card at the beginning of each school year.

To post Work-Study Jobs:

1. Work-study employers must post a work-study job each new school year. Reminders are emailed each spring to the employers to post jobs for the following school year.

2. To post go to our website at: www.usu.edu/studemp under "work-study" then "post" and submit.

3. You will then receive a job number via email with instructions how to hire the student.

4. Keep a record of the job number so you can call us as the job opens and closes during the year.

5. Work-study jobs are on-campus jobs that are reserved for students with a work-study grant. The department pays 25% and the work-study grant pays 75%.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Your Provisional Work-Study Award is not guaranteed. It gives you permission to search and apply for a work-study job. If you have not secured a work-study job by the expiration date listed on the Referral/Control Card, this permission will automatically expire and you will not longer be eligible for work-study funds.
